the Disintegrating Sound of Structure, 2012
Bethan Graham-Dolman, (Brighton, East Sussex, England)
Microscope, soil, sound film, Mp3 player, speaker, sound recording
Artist Website: http://bethanartworks.wordpress.com/

The artist recorded a sound on film, and buried the film for a time to degrade it. The film was retrieved from underground and the visitor was able to inspect it through the microscope while the sound that was recorded on film plays back from under the soil. Dissolving borders between over ground and underground, the work reflects processes within nature. The invisible is rendered visible, the inaudible is rendered audible.
Note: Sounds are presented in the context of the exhibition, and so the sound of each piece mingles with the others.

Unless otherwise specified photos are by Carrie Hodges & C. Reider and sounds were recorded by C. Reider. Creative Commons applies to the photos and sound recordings only, attribution should be made to the artist as well as the photographer or sound recordist.
